User Needs Mapping

For: Product Managers, UX Researchers, Platform Teams, Architects

Overview

User needs mapping, created by Rich Allen, serves as a quick way to start with Wardley Mapping in practice. It puts the users at the center and builds up the technical systems and team structures from there.

Use it when you want to:

  • Create a shared picture of your users needs and whether they align to your organizational goals
  • Visualize link between user needs and capabilities, including dependencies
  • Determine whether the current team setup can be improved by optimizing team boundaries

Note that the approach has similarities with Architecture for flow.
